We are soooooooo happy to be home and back to normal life after a hospital scare for Eric. He went in to get an abscess drained that was a pain in his butt -- literally! Not something you want to blog too many details about. Well, here is a picture of Eric getting wheeled into surgery. (I only had my cell phone camera since I'd left for the ER in a hurry!)
His surgery went well and he was out of pain -- but the nurses then had to work their own butts off! They had to keep him on a cold table, ice packs all over his body, ice chips in his mouth and a cold blanket running over him. After waiting way longer than they had told me the surgery would last, I walked back and asked when he'd be coming out. The nurses told me to go wait in our room cause the post-surgery fever was too dangerous to move him. So, what should have been a 2-hour surgery turned into a 4-day stay. Eric's body over-reacted to the infection and tried harder than it should have to beat it. In the end, the antibiotics kicked in and his body got back to normal. But, not until 2 more nights of being known to the nurses as "Fever King!" They worked so hard and we'd all cheer when his fever took the slightest turn down, only to go back up an hour later. It was a stubborn fever, but I'm so grateful for the nurses who fought so hard. One Ethiopian nurse who we loved said, "I pray all night for you, you are too young to die!" Well, YEAH! We didn't ever really think about that, but appreciated her prayers anyway. Our kids had no warning that their parents were going to disappear for FOUR days! They came to visit at the hospital and thought it was a big party -- ice cream treats and a mechanical bed! Dylan cuddled right in the bed and asked his dad to get out! Thanks to my mom, sisters and neighbors who entertained, fed and got the kids where they needed to be each day. I think when we came home, our kids actually seemed to appreciate having us around! Ella has been the sweetest little nurse to her daddy -- bringing him water with straws and blankets.
A big hug to my husband, who after almost 10 years together, I can still never get bored with him or sick of being together. We were exhausted, but managed to have some good laughs and a few hospital date night movies -- in between fever checks!
THANK you to all the family members who said prayers or called us for updates and showed your love and support. It made all the difference! I'm so grateful for family, faith, prayer, health and strength -- and all the yummy meals so I didn't have to cook for more than a week!
